- 2003: He won the Fischer
Black Prize awarded by the American Finance Association for
contributions to the theory and practice of finance by an
economist under age 40.
- 2003 to 2007: He was chief
economist at the International Monetary Fund.
- August 10, 2012: He was
appointed as chief economic adviser to India's Ministry of
Finance, succeeding Kaushik Basu.
- August 06, 2013: It was
announced that Rajan would take over as the next Reserve
Bank of India Governor for a term of 3 years, succeeding
Duvvuri Subbarao.
- September 05, 2013:
He took charge as Governor of Reserve Bank of India.
- September 26, 2013: He was
awarded the fifth Deutsche Bank Prize for Financial
Economics 2013 on this day for his "ground-breaking research
work which influenced financial and macro-economic policies
around the world".
- 2014: He was conferred the
Best Central Bank Governor award for 2014 by Euromoney
Magazine.
- November 09, 2015: He was
appointed as Vice-Chairman of the Bank for International
Settlements (BIS).
