- January 15. 1934: He was in
jail, when on this day an earthquake hit BIhar.
- January 17, 1934: On this
day, he was released from Jail and set up Bihar Central
Relief Committee and took the task of raising funds to help
the people affected by the earthquake 2 days earlier.
- May 31, 1935: During the
Quetta earthquake on this day, he set up Quetta Central
Relief Committee in Sindh and Punjab under his own
presidency.
- August 08, 1942: Congress
passed the Quit India Resolution in Bombay which led to the
arrest of many Indian leaders. He was also arrested and sent
to Jail.
- June 15, 1945: After
remaining in jail for nearly three years, he was released on
this day.
- September 02, 1946: After
the formation of Interim Government of 12 nominated
ministers under the leadership of Jawaharlal Nehru on this
day, he got the Food and Agriculture department.
- December 11, 1946: He was
elected the President of Constituent Assembly on this day.
- November 17, 1947: He
became Congress President for a third time after J. B.
Kripalani submitted resignation.
- January 26, 1950: On this day, the
Constitution of independent India was ratified and he was
elected the nation's first President.

- He was a major activist from Bihar in the Indian
Independence Movement.
- He was a stauch follower of Mahatma Gandhi.
- He was imprisoned by the British rulers at two occasions
– during salt satuagraha of 1931 and Quit India Movement of
1942.
- He also served as the President of the Indian National
Congress from 1934 to 1935.
- After independence in 1947, he became the President of
the Constituent Assembly of India which finalized the
Constitution of India.
- On India becoming a republic in 1950, he was elected by
the Constituent Assembly as the First President of India.
- He is the only President of India having been elected
twice.
