- She, wife of Dalpat Shah, was
the Gond Queen.
- She is famous in Indian History
for defeating the army of
Baz Bahadur, the last
Sultan of Malwa, and bravely
fighting against the Mughal Army.
- After the death of her husband,
Dalpat Shah, in 1550 she took the
reins of the Gond kingdom
in her hands.
- She also fought
gallantly with Akbar's
General Asaf Khan, who suffered
heavy losses.
- Finally, being on the verge of
defeat, she killed hereself
rather than surrendering.

Commemoration |
- In the year 1983, the Government
of Madhya Pradesh renamed the
University of Jabalpur as
Rani Durgavati Vishwavidyalaya
in her memory.
- Government of India issued
a postal-stamp
commemorating her death, on 24 June
1988.
- The train between Jabalpur
Junction and Jammutawi is known as
Durgavati Express.
