- 1991: JRD Tata stepped down
as Tata Industries chairman, naming Ratan Tata as his
successor.
- 1962: He began his career
in the Tata group in 1962; he initially worked on the shop
floor of Tata Steel, shovelling limestone and handling the
blast furnace.
- 2000: He was honoured with
PADMA BHUSHAN Award by the Govt of India.
- 2008: He was honoured with
PADMA VIBHUSHAN Award by the Govt of India.
- 2012: He received the
Lifetime Achievement Award from the prestigious
Rockefeller Foundation.
- December 2012: He retired
from all executive responsibility in the Tata group and was
succeeded by Cyrus Mistry.
