was attacked by French forces; after several days of
bombardment the British surrendered and the French entered
the city.
- March 11, 1747: He is
remembered for his contribution towards the defence of the
Fort St. David by repulsing the French assault thereon on
this day, with the assistance of the Nawab of the Carnatic.
- January 02, 1757: He led
the capture of Calcutta on this day without much difficulty.
