written when he was just 17, won the John Llewellyn Rhys
Memorial Prize.
- 1992: Sahitya Akademi Award for Our

- He is an Indian author of British descent.
- Presently he lives in Landour, Mussoorie,
with his adopted family.
- His writings are greatly influenced by the
life in hills, and the valley of Dehra Dun, where
he spent his childhood.
- His non-fiction writing, Rain in the Mountains
was also much acclaimed.
- He has also written over 500 short stories
and articles that have appeared in a number of magazines and
anthologies.

He has written several
short stories, essays, novels and more than thirty books
for children. Some of his works like The
Night Train at Deoli, Time Stops at Shamli
and Our Trees Still Grow in Dehra have been
published by Penguin India.
