The third battle of Panipat was fought
between the
Afghans under Ahmad Shah Durrani and the
Marathas, led by Sadashiv Rao
Bhau, who was killed in this battle.

The battle is considered
one of the largest fought in the 18th
century,
and has perhaps the largest number of fatalities in a single
day reported in a classic formation battle between two
armies.

The Afghan victory in the third battle of Panipat changed
the course of Indian History and paved the way for
subsequent British rule.
