Dec 17, 2018:
The Delhi High Court on
this day reversed the trial court's decision to acquit Sajjan
Kumar, Congress leader, in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots case.
Consequently, he was awarded life term and Rs 5 lakh fine for
his role in the heinous crime, and was ordered to surrender
before the end of the current calendar year 2018.
Nov 20, 2018:
A Delhi court
awarded death penalty to convict Yashpal Singh, the first
capital punishment in the case, besides giving life term to
Naresh Sherawat.
Nov 14, 2018:
The Court convicted Yashpal Singh and Naresh Sherawat for
killing two men in the 1984 riots.
Jan 31, 2017:
SIT filed a charge
sheet against Naresh Sherawat and Yahspal Singh.
Aug 27, 2016:
SIT published a
public notice requesting people having know;edge of the facts of
the case to come forward and give evidence about it.
Feb 12, 2015:
Ministry of Home Affairs, Govt of India, constituted SIT for
reinvestigating the 1984 riots.
Aug 27, 2013:
Delhi High Court accepted
an appeal filed by the CBI against his previous acquittal by a
lower court. CBI stated that the trial court "erred in
acquitting Sajjan Kumar as it was he who had instigated the mob
during the riots".
Apr 2013:
In April 2013, a district
court in Delhi acquitted him, while convicting five others.

against Sajjan Kumar and seven other accused, viz. Balwan
Khokkar, Mahender Yadav, Girdhari Lal, Kishan Khokkar, Captain
Bhagmal, Maha Singh and Santosh Rani.
