  • April 1993 - Due to terrorist interactions, and illegal possession of illegal arms, Sanjay was arrested under the Terrorist and Disruptive Activities Act (TADA). Sanjay had earlier confessed that he met Qayuum in Dubai in September 1992 and bought a pistol from him.
  • November 1993 - A long primary charge sheet was filed against the 189 accused in the 1993 Mumbai bomb blasts case including Sanjay.
  • 1994-95 - He spent 18 months in jail until he was granted bail in October 1995 by the Supreme Court of India.
  •  March 2006 - the prosecution said that one of the accused in Bombay blast case had delivered some rifles and hand grenades to Sanjay Dutt at his Bandra house in January 1993.
  • 2006 - He was finally acquitted of any TADA-related offenses but was charged under the illegal possession of arms act.
  • February 13, 2007 - Mumbai police arrested Abdul Qayyum, a close aide of Dawood Ibrahim, also known to Sajay Dutt,  and wanted for his role in the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts.
  • July 2007 - Dutt was sentenced to six years rigorous imprisonment for illegally possessing weapons. He was immediately taken into custody and sent to Jail in Mumbai.
  • November 2007 - the Supreme Court of India granted him interim bail upon which he was released from jail.
  • March 21, 2013 - The Supreme Court upheld his conviction to serve jail for 5 years, 18 months of which he already spent in jail during the trial.

  • December 21, 2013 - He was paroled. The parole was extended three times until March 2014, raising concern in Mumbai High Court and a proposal from the Government of Maharashtra to amend the law of parole.
  • December 24, 2014 - Sanjay Dutt was out on a two weeks' furlough by the Yerwada Central Jail authorities.
  • February 25, 2016 - After serving his sentence, Dutt was released from Yerwada Central Jail.
