Festival -
organized by Art of Living:
- Held on the banks of river Yamuna at Mayur
Vihar, New Delhi, India
- It hosted largest ever gathering in
AOL's history
- More than 35,000 artists and
10,000 volunteers from AOL managed one of
the greatest cultural extravaganzas the world has
seen.
- More than 3,000 spiritual and faith leaders
participated in this one of the world's grandest "One
World One Family" show for 3 days.
- Some of the world records were challenged by the number
of artists performing on stage and the AOL grand orchestra
consisting of 8,500 artists playing 50 types of
musical instruments.
- The event show-cased the folk dances of over 30
countries.
- Artists and dignitaries from 155 countries.
- Mind boggling logistics and
over 200,000 persons gathering in the closing hours was a
great spectacle.
- A dance troupe from Pakistan comprising 57 sufi
singers and performers also won the hearts of many.
- The event was inaugurated by the Prime Minister,
Narendra Modi.

despite the initial glitches and hurdles posed by certain

- In 1997, he established a Geneva-based charity, the
International Association for Human Values,
an NGO.
- This NGO engages in relief work and rural development
and aims to foster shared global values.
- His first teacher was Sudhakar Chaturvedi,
an Indian Vedic Scholar and a close associate of Mahatma
Gandhi.
- He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Bangalore
University.
- In the 1980s, he initiated a series of practical
and experiential courses in spirituality around the
globe.
- He says that every emotion has a corresponding
rhythm in the breath and that regulating the breath
can help elevate the individual.
- He teaches that spirituality is that which
enhances human values such as love, compassion and
enthusiasm.
- In 1983, Shankar held the first Art of Living
course in Europe, in Switzerland.
- Spirituality is not limited to any one religion
or culture. Hence it is open to all people.
- In the 1990s, he initiated a number of
humanitarian projects, which continue to this date.
- He's involved in interfaith dialogue
and currently sits on the Board of World Religious Leaders
for the Elijah Interfaith Institute.
- In 1992, he started a prison program to
rehabilitate prison inmates and help them reintegrate into
the mainstream.
