peer, sitting in the House of Lords as a Labour member with
the title Baron Paul, of Marylebone in the City of
Westminster.

by the Indian Merchants' Chamber.
- 2008: He was appointed
deputy speaker of the Lords.
- 2008: - Lifetime Achievement Award.
- October 15, 2009: He was
the first person of Indian origin to hold the post of deputy
speaker of the House of Lords, one of twelve people in that
post. He was sworn of the Privy Council on this day.
