- Indian shooter from the Maharashtrian city of
Kolhapur. Her father Ravindra Sawant was an
officer in the Indian Navy.
- She was also appointed as officer on special
duty (OSD) in the sports department.
- She was selected to represent India at the 2006
Commonwealth Games ahead of Asian Games
gold medallist Anjali Ved Pathak Bhagwat and
world record holder Suma Shirur after winning 5
gold medals, 6 silver medals and 5 bronze medals
at the national championships.
- Aug 08, 2010: She became the World Champion in the
50m Rifle Prone event in Munich, Germany. She was the first Indian
woman shooter to win a gold medal at the World Championships with a
world-record equalling score in the 50 m Rifle Prone event.
- Aug 29, 2011: She was decorated with Arjuna Award.
- Feb 11, 2016: She got married to Sameer Darekar, a
builder in Pune.
- Apr 12, 2018: She won Silver at Women's 50m Rifle
Prone Finals.
- Apr 13, 2018: She won gold at the Women’s 50m Rifle
3 Position Finals. She also set a Games Record with total points of
457.9.
