- DELHI / NEW DELHI:
- September 13, 2008:
- Serial explosions at various places in the heart
of the city, killing and injuring several innocent
people. The cowardly act was claimed to have been
accomplished by so called Indian Mujahidin.
- October 29, 2005:
- The 29 October 2005 Delhi bombings resulted in
killing 62 people and injuring at least 210 others
in three explosions. The bombings came only two days
before the important festival of Diwali. The bombs
were triggered in two markets in central and south
Delhi and in a bus in the Govindpuri area in the
south of the city. Indian investigators believe the
Kashmir separatist/ Islamic terrorist group
Lashkar-e-Taiba was behind the attacks.
- December 13, 2001: Attack on Indian
Parliament:
- It was a high-profile attack on ‘Sansad Bhawan’,
the Parliament of India, New Delhi by
Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorists.
- The attack led to the death of five terrorists,
six Delhi Police personnel, two watch and ward staff
and a gardener, in total 14 and to increased
tensions between India and Pakistan, resulting in
the 2001-2002 India-Pakistan standoff.
- December 2002:
Four JeM members were caught and put on trial. One
of the accused, Mohammad Afzal Guru, was sentenced
to the death penalty for the incident.
- October 20, 2006:
The sentence was scheduled to be carried out on this
day, but Afzal was given a stay of execution and
remained on death row.
- February 03, 2013:
His mercy petition was rejected by the President of
India Pranab Mukherjee.
- February 09, 2013:
Afzal Guru, sentenced to death by Indian courts, was
hanged at Delhi's Tihar Jail on this day, and buried
in Tihar jail.

Hijacking of Indian Airlines FLIGHT 814: |
Dec 24, 1999: The plane was hijacked
en route from Kathmandu to Delhi.
Harkat-ul-Mujahideen, a Pakistan-based Islamic extremist group,
was accused of the hijacking.
Dec 31, 1999: The hostage crisis
lasted for 7 days and ended on Dec 31, 1999 after India agreed
to release three militants – Mushtaq Ahmed Zargar, Ahmed Omar
Saeed Sheikh and Maulana Masood Azhar. These very militants have
since been implicated in 9/11, the kidnap and murder of Daniel
Pearl and Mumbai terror attacks.
