- November 09, 2016:
- Underworld gangster Dawood Ibrahim’s aide
Abdul Rauf alias Dawood Merchant was deported
from Bangladesh to India late on this day.
- July 13, 2011:
- Serial blasts ripped
through three places in Mumbai on this day. Many killed and
many more struggling for life.
- November 26, 2008:
- LeT struck at CST, the Taj, Oberoi-Trident and Chabad House -
166 killed. One terrorist, viz.
Ajmal Kasab, a Pakistani
citizen, was caught alive who was later hanged to
death.

- September 29, 2008:
- 2008 Malegaon Blast Case:
Seven people were killed and nearly 100 others
injured when a bomb tied to a motorcycle exploded in
Malegaon town of Nashik district in Maharashtra, India,
on this day.
- Nov 04, 2008:
Lt. Col. Shrikant Purohit, a serving Army officer,
was arrested for his alleged involvement in the
blasts. The matter soon took a political turn with
the BJP and the Shiv Sena alleging political motives
behind the arrests and the Congress for using the
ATS for political gains.
- Jan 20, 2009:
14 persons were chargesheeted by Maharashtra ATS on
this day. Sadhvi Pragya and Lt. Col. Shrikant
Purohit were named the key conspirators in the case.
Further investigation suggested the involvement of
the Hindu extremist group Abhinav Bharat.
- Jul 31, 2009:
The special court trying the case dropped the MCOCA
charges against all the accused in the case,
including Sadhvi Pragya Thakur and Lt Col Prasad
Purohit.
- Jul 19, 2010:
The Bombay High Court reinstated MCOCA charges
against the 11 accused persons.
- Oct 23, 2010:
While initially Muslims were seen as suspects in the
case but it was under Hemant Karkare of the
Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) that
investigations led to alleged involvement of Hindu
extremists based in Indore, as first reported by The
Indian Express on this day.
- Apr 13,
2011: On the direction
of Home Ministry, the National Investigation Agency
(NIA) took over the case along with a several other
blast cases involving right-wing extremists,
including the 2007 Samjhauta Express, Mecca Masjid
and Ajmer Dargah bombings.
- Sep 23, 2011:
The Supreme Court of India rejected the bail plea of
Sadhvi Pragya Thakur.
- Apr 15,
2015: The Supreme Court held that
the Malegaon accused cannot be charged under MCOCA
since there was no evidence as on date. It further
said that the trial court should decide their bail
plea on merit and without applicability of MCOCA.
- 2016: Charges against Pragya
Singh Thakur and five others dropped by the NIA.
Agency told a special court that it found no
evidence against them.
- Apr 17, 2017:
NIA submitted in the Supreme Court that it will not
oppose bail for accused Lt. Col. Prasad Purohit as
the chargesheet has already been filed.
- Apr 25, 2017:
The Bombay High Court granted bail to Sadhvi Pragya
Singh Thakur on a surety bond of Rs 5 lakh. She was
directed to deposit her passport in the NIA court.
The High Court, however, rejected the bail of
another accused in the case, Lt Colonel Prasad
Purohit, saying the accusations against him seem
“prima facie true”.

2017: The Supreme Court reserved its
verdict on a plea of Lieutenant Colonel Shrikant
Prasad Purohit seeking interim bail.

The Supreme Court on Monday granted bail to Lt.
Colonel Shrikant Prasad Purohit.
- Dec 27, 2017:
Special NIA court drops MCOCA charges against Sadhvi
Pragya and Lt Colonel Purohit.
- July 11, 2006:
- A series of seven bomb blasts
that took place over a period of 11 minutes on the
Suburban Railway in Mumbai. The bombs were set off in pressure cookers on trains
plying the Western line of the Suburban Railway network.
209 people were killed and over 700 were
injured.
- The incidents that followed the bombings were used as
details in the plot of the film, A Wednesday!
(2008) starring Naseeruddin Shah, which was inspired by the
train bombings.
- The Hindi film Mumbai Meri Jaan (2009),
which won multiple Filmfare Awards, deals with the aftermath
of the Mumbai train bombings.

- March 12, 1993:
- 11 blasts in
the city - 215 dead and 713 injured.
- June 16, 2017: A
TADA Court convicted gangster Abu Salem and five
others in the March 12, 1993 Mumbai blasts case. The
accused were found guilty of conducting conspiracy
and terror activities, and aiding in the arrangement
of arms and ammunition used in the blasts. A seventh
accused, who had accompanied Salem to deliver arms
and ammunition to Sanjay Dutt's house, was
acquitted.
