Description |
Allegations of bribery and
corruption involving several senior officials and
AgustaWestland, Italian Helicopter manufavturer,
pertaining to the purchase of a new fleet of helicopters. These
were sought to perform VVIP duties for the President of India
and other VVIP dignitaries.
The contract for purchase of 12 helicopters was signed in Feb
2010.
He had been accused by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) of
receiving about Euro 30 million from AgustaWestland to influence
the deal in its favour. The ED and CBI are both probing the
case, in which a chargesheet was filed against Michel in June
2016. |

The Dubai authorities
extradited Christian Michel, a middleman of the deal, to Delhi
on a private jet. immediately after his reaching Delhi, the
Govt. of India officially took him into custody. |

The
Supreme Court of Dubai passed the orders for the extradition to
India of Christian Michel, the middleman of the deal. |

Jan 08, 2018: |
The
third Court of Appeals of Milan finally acquitted the defendants
on all charges. |

Feb 08, 2017: |
On the
request of Interpol, Michel was first arrested by the Dubai
authorities on this day. |

Dec 16, 2016: |
The
conviction of Giuseppe Oris, in Apr 2016, was now cancelled by
the Italian Supreme Court, which ordered a retrial of the whole
case. |

Tyagi, former Chief of the Indian Air Force and his cousin
Sabjeev Tyagi and his lawyer Gauyam Khaitan were arrested by the
CBI. |

The
Milan Court of Appeal, Italy, convicted AgustaWestland's
executive Giuseppe Orsi to four years' imprisonment for paying a
Euro 30 million bribe to Indian politicians, bureaucrats and
Indian Air Force officials. |

corruption did take place and bribes had been taken. |

CBI
registered an FIR naming13 persons including: former Indian Air
Force Chief, Air Chief Marshal S.P. Tyagi, his three brothers
and Pratap Aggarwal (Chairman and Managing Director of IDS
Infotech). It also named four companies - Italy-based
Finmeccanica, UK-based AgustaWestland and Chandigarh-based IDS
Infotech and Aeromatrix. |

the arrest of Giuseppe Orsi, the CEO of Finmeccanica,
AgustaWestland's parent company by Italian authorities. As a
sequel there to, the Ministry of Defence, Govt of India, ordered
a probe into the deal. |
