- She flew into space first on June 16, 1963.
- She was a textile-factory assembly worker and an amateur
parachutist, before being trained selected as a cosmonaut.
- She became the first woman to fly into space on
the 16th June, 1963.
- She married Andrian Nikolayev, her colleague
cosmonaut, on 3 November 1963 at
the Moscow Wedding Palace. Khrushchev himself presided at
the wedding party, together with top government and space
program leaders.
- he was also the first civilian in space (as she was
inducted into the USSR's Air Force as a condition on joining
the Cosmonaut Corps).

- On 5 April 2008, she became a
torchbearer of the 2008 Summer Olympics torch relay in Saint
Petersburg, Russia.
- She was invited to Prime Minister Vladimir Putin's
residence for the celebration of her 70th birthday.

- Order of Honour (10 June 2003) – for
outstanding contribution to the development and
strengthening of international scientific, cultural and
social ties.
