- July 08, 1497:
After decades of sailors trying to reach the Indies,
with thousands of lives and dozens of vessels lost in
shipwrecks and attacks, he set his sail on this day
for his expedition from Lisbon to
India.
- May
20, 1498:
Finally, he landed in Calicut, India on
this day.

August 29, 1498:
After completion of his mission in
India, he left Calicut, India on
this day for his return to Lisbon.

July 10, 1499:
He along with his companion, the
Portuguese explorer Nicolau Coelho,
returned to Lisbon, after
discovering the sea route to India.

February 12, 1502:
He set the
sail from Lisbon, Portugal, on his second voyage to India.
- October 30, 1502:
He returned to Calicut for the
second time.
- 1503:
He set his sail for his return to Portugal in early
1503.
- February 1524:
He was granted
the privileged title of "Viceroy of Portuguese India",
being only the second Portuguese governor to enjoy that
title (the first was Francisco de Almeida
in 1505).
- September 1524:
He reached India
to takeover as Viceroy. But within a
few months he contracted malaria as
a result of which he died on
December 23, 1524.
