- February 10, 1952:
CRICKET - India won its first ever test match on this day,
when it beat England at Madras. Captain was Vijay Hazare.
Vinoo Mankad took 8 wickets for 55 runs.

- He captained the Indian cricket team between 1951 and
1953.
- He led India to its first ever test cricket victory
nearly 20 years after India achieved Test status. This match
was played at Madras against England in 1952. Incidentally,
this was also the only victory under Hazare's captaincy.
- He was a right-hand batsman, and also a right-hand
medium-pace bowler.
- He took the wicket of Donald Bradman, the world
greatest cricket player, three times.
- He was the First Indian player to score a
century in three successive Test matches.
- He is also the first Indian player to complete 1000
test runs.
- Vijay Hazare is the only batsman to score hundreds
on consecutive days in Test cricket. Hazare accomplished the
feat against Australia in Adelaide in 1948, making 108 on
Day 3 and 102 on Day 4, becoming the first Indian to hit
tons in both innings of a Test.
- He and Jasu Patel were the first cricketers to be
honoured with the Padma Shri award by the government of
India.
