- Founded in Amsterdam in 1952, International
Humanist and Ethical Union (IHEU) is the sole world
umbrella organisation embracing Humanist, atheist,
rationalist, secularist, skeptic, laique, ethical cultural,
freethought and similar organisations world-wide.
- IHEU’s vision is a Humanist world; a
world in which human rights are respected
and everyone is able to live a life of dignity.
- The mission of IHEU is to build and represent the global
Humanist movement that defends human rights and promotes
Humanist values world-wide.
- Universal rights to which every person
is entitled because they are justified by a moral standard
that stands above the laws of any individual nation.
- Created in 2006, the United Nations Human Rights
Council is mandated to promote and protect the
enjoyment and full realization, by all people, of all rights
established in the Charter of the United Nations and in
international human rights laws and treaties.
- The mandate includes preventing human rights
violations, securing respect for all human rights
and promoting international cooperation to protect human
rights.
- Humanism is a democratic and ethical life stance, which
affirms that human beings have the right and responsibility
to give meaning and shape to their own lives.
- It stands for the building of a more humane
society through an ethic based on human and other
natural values in the spirit of reason and free inquiry
through human capabilities.
