Entry into Holy Shrines |

Date-wise Events |
August 26, 2016:
Bombay High Court allowed women’s entry into the Haji
Ali Dargah’s inner sanctum. The decision came after a PIL
challenging the ban stated that gender justice is inherent in
the Quran, and the decision contravenes the Hadith, which says
that there is no prohibition on women visiting graves.
October 24, 2016: Women will be allowed to
enter Mumbai’s Haji Ali Dargah in a month’s time, the shrine’s
trust told the Supreme Court on this day. It's a landmark
victory for female worshippers who are still barred from some of
India’s most holy places. |
