  •  The event was established by the Governing Council of the United Nations Development Programme in 1989. It was inspired by the public interest in Five Billion Day on July 11, 1987.
  • World Population Day aims at increase in people's awareness on various population issues such as the importance of family planning, gender equality, poverty, maternal health and human rights.
  • August 10, 2000 - On this day, the world population reached 6 billion mark according to www.ibiblio.org world population tracker.
  • The world population (as of January 01, 2014) is estimated to be 7,137,661,030.
  • Jansankhya Sthirata Kosh (JSK) in India is doing every effort to draw the attention of the Media and the masses towards the issues of Population Stabilization.
