Description |
- Red Cross volunteers always remained at the
forefront in times of wars, battles, famines, epidemics and
other natural calamities and disasters.
- Red Cross and red Crescent Societies have the world's
largest humanitarian network for providing relief, with
their presence in about 200 countries.
- The Red Cross and the red
Crescent movement was started with a view to providing the
first aid as well as all other aid and assitance to the
victims on the battlefields.
- The Indian Red Cross Society
has its headquarters at New Delhi with branches in almost
all the States and Union territoties.
- The Indian Red
Cross's programmes are grouped into four main core areas:
- Promoting humanitarian principles and values;
- Disaster
response;
- Disaster preparedness; and
- Health and Care in the
Community.
- The values that the Movement has formally
stated to be of importance for promotion are:
- the protection of life, health and
human dignity
- respect for the human beings
- non-discrimination on the basis of
nationality, race, gender, religious beliefs,
disability, class or political opinions
- mutual understanding, friendship, cooperation and
lasting peace among people
- service by volunteers
