(Born: Nov 07, 1888 – Trichy, Tamil Nadu, India - Died: Nov 21, 1970 – Bangalore, Karnataka, India)

He discovered on February 28, 1928 (celebrated as National Science Day in India)that when light traverses a transparent material, some of the deflected light changes in wavelength.

This phenomenon is now called Raman scattering and is the result of the Raman effect.
