- He was the 16th President of the United States,
serving from March 1861 until his assassination in April 1865.
- In 1831, he went into business, where he proved to
be a failure.
- So he entered politics, but here also he achieved
no success.
- So he reverted back to business in 1834, but he
again suffered a failure.
- In 1841, he had a nervous breakdown.
- After recovery, he again entered the political
arena.
- He was defeated in the first two chances to run for
the Senate in 1855 and 1858 respectively.
- Ultimately, he was elected president in 1860.
- He is now known as the architect of modern America.
- Lincoln led the United States through its greatest
constitutional, military, and moral crises—the American Civil War.
- He succeeded in passing the law, which finally
freed all slaves nationwide in December 1865.
