Saina Nehwal (born 17 March 1990) is an Indian player, former world no.1 in Women's .

She is the to win a medal in Badminton at the Olympics. She achieved this feat by winning the at the London Olympics 2012 on 4 August 2012.

She is also the first Indian after and the first Indian to become world number 1 badminton player.

Besides these, she is the first Indian to win the Badminton Championships and was also the first Indian to win a Super tournament, by clinching the Indonesia Open on 21 June 2009. Saina is supported by the Olympic .

Saina was initially coached by S. M. Arif a Award winner, and then by Pullela till 2014 September.

She played for Hotshots in the Indian Badminton League in 2013.

She won at 2015 BWF World Championship becoming the first Indian woman to do so.

On 26 January 2014 she defeated World Championship bronze medalist P.V. to win the Women's Singles of India Open Grand Gold Tournament.

She became the 1st Indian woman to win the Open Super Series Premier by beating Japan's Akane Yamaguchi 21-12, 22-20 in the final.

Defending Champion Saina Nehwal won the 2015 India Open Grand Prix Gold by defeating Spain's Marin in the Final.

She became the first Indian woman to reach the finals of All England Open Badminton Championships, but lost to Carolina in the final.

On 29 March 2015, Saina won her maiden women's singles title at the India Open Super Series beating Ratchanok Intanon of Thailand.

On 16th Aug 2015, she went down fighting to Carolina Marin again, in the of World Badminton Championships held in Jakarta, settling for the Silver.
