Alka Yagnik (born 20 March 1966 in , India) is amongst the best-known of Hindi cinema.

She is a record of the Filmfare Award for Singer, a two-time recipient of the National as well as several other music awards.

Twenty of her tracks feature in BBC's "Top 40 of all time" review.

Her mother Shubha Yagnik was a singer of Indian .

She started singing for All India Radio ( ) at the tender age of just 6 years.

Her first song was for the film Payal in (1980), followed by Laawaris (1981) with the hit song "Mere ".

She got her with the song "Ek Do Teen" from the superhit film (1988). This song became a pop hit, also winning her a Award.

Apart from Hindi, she has sung in as many as 13 more .

In 2012, on occasion of Cinema, her song "Taal Se " from the movie Taal was voted as the best song in a poll conducted by DesiMartini, Hindustan Times and Fever 104.
