12.  Creative Attitudes

“Religion is the opium of the people” said Karl Marx.

This remark will miss the mark,

For religion can cure many an ill

If with faith in God man’s soul will fill.

Some actions of great men are epoch-making;

Some others are path-breaking.

They will remain in the annals of history

Sometimes for searching posterity’s discovery.

After trouble there is often normalcy;

But normalcy should not lead to complacency,

For trouble may start again

If vigilance we do not maintain.

Many a splendid thing have men achieved

Because they strongly believed

That something inside them was the root cause

And circumstances did not make them pause.

Treating the symptom and not the cause is not the remedy;

It is equally true in spiritual malady.

The symptom may subside for the moment

But the cause will remain permanent.

A bird that soars to the skies

May boast to be the king of the skies;

But a man on a mission to the moon

Can consider it no more than a boon.

To the offender justice is always violent

For in his own eyes he is innocent;

He can fool others by such thinking

If of proof there is no inkling.

It requires a strong attitude

Rather than a mere aptitude

To reach your ultimate altitude

With the maximum certitude.

The flotsam and jetsam of society

Are wandering with a lot of anxiety

In a world that has no care for them

And may, as a nuisance, despise them.

A sorrowing mind is fixed on the past

And broods over things that have been lost.

A hopeful mind looks forward to the future

And all the good things that it can capture.

If you are fighting for a cause

Impediments will not make you pause,

For the cause is more precious to you

Than the profit or loss that comes to you.

“Justice delayed is justice denied”,

Justice denied is the citizen’s hope belied.

When the court fails to deliver justice,

Where else can he go for getting justice?

Be not be a judge and be in the dock;

He is a person that people shouldn’t mock

Better be a lawyer and make a gain

Than be a crook of a judge and earn disdain.

Can religion make us love each other

Or can it just make us hate each other?

If religion is followed in its true spirit

We cannot succumb to an evil spirit.

We must learn to live as brothers-

A maxim about which nobody bothers

When neighbours fight with each other

And increase enmity and gain no other.

Ambition has nothing but one aim-

It is a little power and a transient fame;

But it results in a fading name

And it is the end of the game.

Lament not if you fail;

Every failure you have to hail

As a fore-runner of victory

Which is from failure a recovery.
