13.  Feet on High

To so many adventurists sky is the limit;

To materialists maximum power and pelf are the limit,

To pure spirituals heaven is the limit;

To all and sundry nothing has any limit.

“There is many a slip between the cup and the lip;

There is many a fall between the touch and the grip.

In life failure is a possibility

But success at the end is a necessity.

Good deeds are the seeds

That produce what everyone needs:

Good will and perfect harmony

Which all enjoy like sweet honey.

Age may write wrinkles on our fore-heads,

But let them not be written on our hearts.

Effect of age on the body may be adverse,

But its effect on the spirit must be the converse.

The blind leading the blind is a dangerous act;

It can by no means be a generous act.

Both of them will fall into the same pit

And they will have to mourn not a bit.

Sharper brains aren’t the need of the hour;

More open minds have the power

To bring out all the hidden lies

And to develop between men close ties.

Why blame the candle if it is put out

By a whiff of wind that blows it out?

You could close the door beforehand;

In life too that precaution will stand.

Time and tide wait for no man;

Within the time at hand achieve what you can.

It is no good bemoaning chances lost;

Such losers are not a few but a host.

Let not the fire in you go out;

Let not the hero in you die out.

Check your road before you proceed,

Then no hurdle in your way you will heed.
