28.  The True Shepherd

God’s message may not come through a messenger

It may even come through a frail old passenger

Who offers his seat to a disabled person

And stands all the way to his destination.

“One stable and one shepherd” was Christ’s desire;

How can we help fulfil that desire?

All Christian churches must come together;

For that we must all pray together.

Jesus became subservient to the law

To redeem those who came under the law.

This is too much of a condescension

To be within our comprehension.

Lamb of God who takest away the sins of the world,

Lamp in darkness that brightens the world,

How much do we owe thee for our purification

And for our own final salvation!

“The children of this Age are cleverer than the children of Light,”

Their crookedness Jesus has put it right.

It is not they that enter heaven;

They are in a way worse than heathen.

God’s love for man is immeasurable,

His sacrifice for man is unspeakable;

How can we return this love

While He is watching us from above.

Jesus took upon himself all our iniquities;

Are we not adding to those iniquities?

Who will bear them again on earth;

Jesus will come only to judge us on earth .

Christ suffered because He was forthright;

In darkness He was a sparkling light.

His disciples were His torch-bearers;

They were not simple way-farers.

Spiritual strength is what you need

To be from temptations freed.

Who can protect you from satan’s snare

If you do not depend upon God’s care?

Whom on earth could I lambast

When I have nothing for bombast?

Whom on earth could I follow

When every claim for greatness is hollow.

O Lord, I am waiting for thy streams of grace

To flow into my heart and on to my face.

How long shall I have to wait for it?

My impatience ,I am afraid, will delay it.
