Simple things can be done in simple ways;
Hard things too can be done in simple ways;
But it requires an inventive brain
And can be done without much strain.
When means are mindlessly vitiated,
Ends are also bound to be affected.
The quality of means and ends must coincide;
Then only the quality of action we can decide.
For those who cannot make both ends meet
Life itself becomes a challenging feat.
If they end up in pitiable penury,
They become victims of money lenders’ usury.
Some dangers are by predestination,
Some others can be prevented by premonition;
Good conduct is a matter of volition,
It cannot be guaranteed by admonition.
Support anybody whose stand is right,
Continue support while he is standing right.
Part with him when he goes wrong;
That requires a mind that is strong.
Truth is at first seldom accepted,
It is first questioned, second ridiculed,
Third it is violently opposed,
And last of all it is accepted.
Standing together we stand firm together
Or sometimes we pitiably fall together.
The former is because we stand on firm ground;
The latter is because we stand on slippery ground.
If yesterday’s vice becomes today’s virtue,
It is a shift of stand which has no virtue.
Vice is vice whatever be the time,
And virtue is virtue irrespective of the time.
In words we have to be honest,
In actions we have to be earnest
And faithful to some noble cause
That we are proud to espouse.
‘Suppressio veri suggestio falsi’ is crookedness.
Why should truth be suppressed?
Why should falsehood be suggested?
This is a policy that needs people’s alertness.
Good for life is adventure,
But beware of misadventure.
The former aims at achievable things,
The latter aims at unachievable things.
Concern should drive us into action,
Not into a state of depression
Because action has a positive effect,
Depression has only a negative effect.
Respect is love in plain clothes,
Adulation is praise in grand robes.
The former has to be deservingly earned
The latter is often selfishly showered.
Evil has to be resisted by the power of love
Though it may not be returned by so much love.
It is better to be the recipient of violence
Than to be the inflicter of violence.
Success is not measured by what you accomplish
But by the opposition that you try to vanquish
And the courage with which you maintain
The struggle from which you cannot refrain.
