SHAHEED BHAGAT SINGH

An article by P.K. Roy dated November 14, 2010

Inquilab Zindabad Inquilab zindabad and it takes a loud voice to make the deaf hear. With these immortal words uttered by sardar Bhgat singh at the time of exploding Bomb in Assembly. With his matchless patriotism, absolute determination, revolutionary heroism and tremendous leadership qualities, Bhagat singh had the unmistakable potential of growing into radical pole of the freedom struggle. He and his comrades produced a real challenge to political supremacy of Mahatama Gandhi and Pt. Nehru. Congress made vary little attempt to save the lives of Bhagat singh and his associates.

Few days before going to the gallows, Bhagat singh said that when the situation of reaction entrap people into its clutches, they hesitate to break the stagnancy, then it is much required to generate a revolutionary fervor. On 2 Feb. 1931, in a massage to the young activist he repeatedly emphasized to work among the ordinary masses. He further stated that workers and the peasants are the real vanguard of Inquilab.

Bhagat singh held out a really potent promise of much more meaningful freedom that could have been ours. In September 28 he and his comrades set up the Hindustan socialist Republican Association at meeting held on ruins of Ferojesh kotla. In one of its action the HSRA avenged the assault on Lala Lajpat Rai by British police, when he was leading anti Simon-commission protest march at Lahore on 30 October 1928.He finally succumbed to death on 17 nov.1928. Bhaght Singh and Batukeswar Dutt threw a Bomb in Legislative assembly on 8 April 1929, when the Public Safety Bill and anti labor Trade dispute Bill was being introduced to the Assembly.

Life and ideas of shaheed Bhagat singh becomes much more relevant in age of moral degeneration in the all walks of Indian life. Nowadays many youths are being victim of social and political deviations. So many of them are being inspired by terrorism and engaged in anti-national activities. Some of them are heading towards crime world, particularly to white color crimes to earn more and more money. By which one might strive to attain overnight prosperity. Ideals of Bhagat singh and his comrades might certainly attribute a new inspiration to Indian youths.

One day ahead of his martyrdom Bhagat singh said that he himself had construed as the inspiration for revolution .The great message Bhagat Singh has left, is to be considered with more serious concern. The thoughts of Bhagat Singh and his comrades are still relevant today because the fact is that he has become an inseparable part of Indian consciousnes. Born in village near Lahore Bhgat Singh emerged as hero of Indian revolutionaries. During the freedom struggle and afterwards, so many poems were written on him in Panjabi, hindi, Bhojpuri Bangali, kananar ,Tamil and Malyalam etc. languages.

Bhagat singh is not only remembered for as an illustration of unparrelel courage, sacrifice patriotism, but also for the deep scientific analysis of souci-political problems. Few days before going to the gallows Bhagat singh said that when the reactionary situation just entraps the people into its clutches and they hesitate for any positive change, then to break the stagnancy it is vary much necessary to generate a revolutionary thoughts.

In his last meeting he told that ultimately British would go away because their roots had been shaken. An agreement between congress and British might take place by which India would attain semi freedom, instead of white rulers black would rule. That was his sagacity that he had been able to visualize so far in future. Bhagat singh and his comrades not only fought bravely with British Empire but also with social backwardness of India.

Hindustan socialist Republican Association, the party of Bhagat singh and his comrades strove hard to build a national consciousness by destroying religious and cast prejudices. Bhagat singh had vary well mentioned an article written by Lala Herdayl in Gadar News paper in which he said that the time of prayers had gone away and now the time to raise the swords had arrived , we do not require Purohhits and Kazis any more. In the absence of economic equality the aspiration for any kind of brotherhood would be hypocrisy. If a chasm between rich and the poor continues, wish to have peace in society would be of no meaning.

Bhagat singh survived only for 24 years. Basically he was an action oriented personality, by his few articals written in news paper of Ganesh shanker vidyarthi, his statements in court during trial, and the letters written from jail. One might imagine the depthness of serious studies of Bhagat singh about society. He stated in Lahore high court that revolution is the law of nature and it is also secret of human progress, but armed blood shed is not compulsory for it. Personal revenge has no place in it and it is not an affair of Pistols and Bombs.

In a joint statement with Batukeswar Dutt he clearly said that we attribute a great sanctity to human life. We are not like the mercenary soldiers of Imperial army; those are properly trained to kill any body without any repentance. We always respect the human life, as much as possible

Strive to save it. Bhagat singh had no illusion that Bombs might procreate revolution. The use Bomb had been a symbol of his resentment against British Imperialism. He declared that his fight is not only with British Imperialism but also against world Imperialism. By his stupendous studies and analytical power he extricated himself from mystical religious prejudices. Bhagat singh had been among first persons those advocated secularism as political policy.

Bhagat singh had been a great self critic, in a letter from jail he said that he functioned as a terrorist but actually he had never been a terrorist in his convictions. He further said that I am a revolutionary, who had scientific thoughts and protracted program. He had firm belief that revolutionaries might not attain their goal through terrorist methods. He used to say that the sword of revolution might be sharpened only by power of thought. The self criticism and free thinking is most essential qualities of a revolutionary.

The prediction of Bhgat singh proved quiet true that for British Imperialism martyr Bhagat singh would grow more dangerous than the alive. He further said after his touch to gallows for death the aroma of his revolutionary thoughts would spread all around in the slave but glorious beautiful country. It would intoxicate the youth and they would emerge crazy for freedom of the nation. In the year 1942 the prediction came true when millions of youths participated in quit India movement with utmost revolutionary fervor, they confronted British police and army with utter most courage by which the pages of history are red with blood. 1942 movement shook the foundation of British raj in India.

In post 1947 period the impact of Bhagat singh and his thoughts on Indian socialist and communist movement have been tremendous. Left movement always mentioned to fulfill the dreams of Bhgat singh in respect of complete social and economic freedom. In politically free India the gap between rich and poor is increasing day by day. Half of the Indian population is still groaning under wretched poverty. Rate of unemployment is still varying much high among the youths of India. Apart of all economic development, terrorism emerged as dangerous threat to the integrity of nation. In this respect the ideas and ideals of sardar Bhgat singh are vary much relevant today itself. Highlys Patriotic and socialist ideas of Bhagat singh might generate a new positive direction among the young Indian generation.
