- December 06, 1796: His
reign started on this day.
- October 25, 1802: The
Battle of Poona took place on this day near Pune between the
rival factions of the Maratha Confederacy. The forces of the
Scindia (Shinde) and the Peshwa Bajirao II were attacked by
the Holkars. Anad the Peshwa was defeated.
- October 27, 1802: On this
day, Baji Rao fled Poona for stay in Vasai.
- December 31, 1802: He fled
his capital Pune and signed the Treaty of Bassein(now called
Vasai) with the British East India Company on this day. The
treaty was a decisive step in the dissolution of the Maratha
Empire.
- March 13, 1803: Yashwantrao
Holkar appointed Amrutrao as the Peshwa and went to Indore
on this day.
- May 13, 1803: Baji Rao II
was restored as peshwa under the protection of the East
India Company and the leading Maratha state had thus become
a client of the British. The treaty led to expansion of the
authority and influence of the East India Company over the
Indian subcontinent.
- 1803-1805: However, the
treaty was not acceptable to all Marathas chieftains, and
resulted in the Second Anglo-Maratha War.
- 1817: Baji Rao II joined
the Third Anglo-Maratha War against the British, after they
favoured the Gaekwad nobles in a revenue-sharing dispute.
- Jan 01, 1818: On this day,
a few hundred Mahar soldiers of the East India Company, led
by the British, defeated the massive Peshwa army, led by
Peshwa Bajirao II, in Koregaon in Pune, Maharashtra.
- June 03, 1818: After
suffering several battle defeats, the Peshwa surrendered to
the British, and agreed to retire in return for an estate at
Bithoor and an annual pension.
