Date-wise Events |
- January 01, 1949: Firstly, an
interim training academy was set up at the Indian Military
Academy (IMA), commissioned as Joint Services Wing (JSW) on
this day. Later National Defence Academy was constructed in
Pune.
- October 06, 1949: Founded
on this day. Prime Minister of India, Jawaharlal Nehru laid
the foundation stone of the National Defence Academy of
India at Khadakvasla, Pune, Maharashtra, India.
- December 07, 1954: It was
formally commissioned on this day.
- January 16, 1955: It was
inaugurated on this day with full-fledged ceremony.
- April 27, 1960: National
Defence College was inaugurated on this day in New Delhi for
training high level officers of the Defence forces of India.

Description |
- NDA is the Joint Services academy of the Indian Armed
Forces, where cadets of the three services, the Army, the
Navy and the Air Force train together before they go on to
pre-commissioning training in their respective service
academies.
- The NDA is located in Khadakwasla near Pune,
Maharashtra.
- Its Motto:
- Sanskrit: सेवा परमो धर्मः
- English: Service is the foremost duty.
- It is the first tri-service academy in the
world.
- NDA alumni have led and fought in every major conflict
in which the Indian Armed Forces has been called to action
since the academy was established.
- The alumni of NDA include (as of June, 2016):
- 3 Param Vir Chakra recipients.
- 9 Ashoka Chakra recipients.
- 8 Chiefs of Army Staff.
- 7 Chiefs of Naval Staff.
- 4 Chiefs of Air Staff.
