- 1934 to 1938: At the age of 33, he became the youngest
Vice-Chancellor of the University of Calcutta.
- 1941 to 1942: He was the Finance minister of Bengal Province
during 1941-42.
- 1944: Amidst communalist and separatist actions
of Muslim League, he emerged as a spokesman for
Hindus and joined Hindu Mahasabha
and in 1944, he became its President.
- April 19, 1950: He resigned after the
Delhi Pact was signed totally ignoring his views on the
issue. So, he became the first Indian Cabinet Minister to
resign from Union Cabinet in the history of free India.He
was firmly opposed to Nehru's invitation to the Pakistani
PM, and their joint pact to establish minority commissions
and guarantee minority rights in both countries. He had
differences with Nehru over the plight of Hindus in East
Pakistan.
- October 21, 1951: Finally, he founded the Bhartiya Jana Sangh on
this day at Delhi and became its first
President.
- May 11, 1953: A massive satyagraha was launched in opposition
to the special status granted to Kashmir. When he
went to visit Kashmir in 1953, he was arrested
there on this day and died as detenu on
June 23, 1953, and No post-mortem was ordered.
- August 27, 1998: The Ahmedabad
Municipal Corporation named a bridge after Mookerjee.
- 2001: In 2001, the main research funding institute of the
Government of India, CSIR instituted a new fellowship named
after him. The Syama Prasad Mukhejee Fellowship is the most
prestigious fellowship given in India for doing PhD.
- April 22, 2010: Municipal Corporation
of Delhi's newly constructed Rs. 650-crore building (the
tallest building in Delhi) was named "Doctor Syama
Prasad Mukherjee Civic Centre".
- January 15, 2012: Mathikere flyover
under Bangalore City Limits was inaugurated and named "Dr
Shyamaprasad Mukherjee Flyover".

- His political views were strongly affected by the
Noakhali genocide in East Bengal, where
mobs belonging to the Muslim league massacred Hindus in
large numbers.
- Following the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi
by Nathuram Godse, the Mahasabha was blamed chiefly
for the heinous act and became deeply unpopular.
- Mookerjee himself condemned the murder.
- At the instance of Mahatma Gandhi, Prime Minister
Jawaharlal Nehru inducted him in the Interim Central
Government as a Minister for Industry and Supply.
- He was firmly opposed to Nehru's invitation to
the Pakistani PM, and their joint pact to establish
minority commissions and guarantee minority
rights in both countries. He had differences with Nehru over
the plight of Hindus in East Pakistan. So
he resigned after the Delhi Pact was signed
totally ignoring his views on the issue.
- BJS was opposed to appeasement of India's
Muslims, and favoured free-market economics as
opposed to the socialist policies pursued by Nehru.
- The BJS also favoured a uniform civil code
governing personal law matters for both Hindus and Muslims,
wanted to ban cow slaughter and end the special status given
to the Muslim-majority state of Jammu and Kashmir.
- The BJS founded the Hindutva agenda
which became the wider political expression of India's Hindu
majority.
- But as a result of Mukherjee’s martyrdom, the permit
system, the post of Sadat-e-Riyasat and of Prime
Minister of Jammu & Kashmir were removed by the
Govt. of India.
