- Head of state of K&K is the Governor, appointed by the
President of India on the advice of the Central government.
His or her post is largely ceremonial.
- The Chief Minister, is the head of government.
- Srinagar and Jammu are the summer and winter capitals of
Jammu and Kashmir.
- Its present Legislature is bicameral, consisting
of a lower house (Vidhan Sabha) of 89 MLAs and an upper
house (Vidhan Parishad) of 36 members. Its term is 6 years.

The Supreme Court of India
dismissed the PIL challenging dissolution of J&K Assembly by
Governor. |

Dec 06, 2018: |
The Govt of India approved
implementation of the Shahpurkandi Dam project on the Ravi in
Punjab. After its completion in June 2022, it will improve
irrigation potential in Jammu & Kashmir and Punjab.
The decision in this regard was taken keeping in view the
provisions of the 1960 Indus Water Treaty, in terms of which
India has full rights for utilisation of waters of the three
eastern rivers Ravi, Beas and Satluj. |

The J&K Assembly was
dissoved on this day amid reports that the PDP, National
Conference and the Congress were close to forming an alliance to
stake claim to power in the state. |

recommending imposition of Governor's rule in the state. |
