July 01, 1852: First
half-Anna adhesive stamp released in Karachi, undivided India, under
Scinde Dawk system, which refers to a very old postal system of runners
that served the Indus Valley of Sindh, in pre-partition India. The term
also refers to the first postage stamps in Asia. Stamps were required
for the prepayment of postage, a basic feature of the new system.
July 01, 1879:
First postcard launched - This
day signifies the introduction of the first inland postcard priced at 1
Paisa in British India.
July 01, 1898:
The Indian Post Office Act
1898 became effective on this day regulating postal service. |
