INDIA - MAHARASHTRA May-01, 1960:   On this day, the State of Bombay, India, was bifurcated into two states of Maharashtra and Gujarat. This day is also known as Maharashtra Day or Maharashtra Diwas in Marathi; it is a state holiday in Maharashtra, India commemorating the formation of the state of Maharashtra. This day is also celebrated as Gujarat Day in Gujarat.
